Over the weekend, a group of about 125 Senegalese students wrapped up their nearly month-long school holiday break in The Gambia, known as Colonie De Vacances. They were lodged at the Bakadaji Hotel in Kololi.
The educational trip allowed the students to learn about The Gambia’s rich cultural diversity, visit historical places, and thereby contribute to the promotion of Destination Gambia.
During their stay in The Gambia, the students were introduced to the making of handicrafts such as bracelets, key holders, bags, flower vases, and house wall decorations, among others.
They were also trained in public speaking, and engaged in physical exercises, among other things.
During their sightseeing, the students also visited the memorial Arch in Banjul, the crocodile pool in Bakau, the Senegalese Ambassador to The Gambia, and Gunjur Beach.
Addressing the students over the weekend, Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, the Minister of Tourism, and Culture, said investing in the future of children is the right step towards the development of the children.
He re-echoed the fact that The Gambia and Senegal have a lot in common in terms of culture and history; and this he noted, could be useful to the students in their educational journey.
Mr. Jobe finally assured the organizers of the Government’s commitment to continue having similar exchange programs between The Gambia and Senegal.
The farewell dinner was punctuated with entertainment by Kora maestro Jaliba Kuyateh.
