4 Government Institutions Boosted with Equipment to Enhance Tourism Data Collection

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project (TDRGP), on Friday 11th July, 2025  handed over office equipment to four government institutions namely, The Gambia Tourism Board, The National Centre for Arts and Culture, The Gambia Bureau of Statistics and The Gambia Immigration Department.

The equipment forms part of a broader effort to improve evidence-based tourism planning and policy formulation, and to support the operationalization of the Management Information System for Tourism (MIST) being developed.
In his speech, Honourable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said, “today’s ceremony represents far more than a simple transfer of equipment – it marks our collective commitment to transforming how we understand, measure, and grow our vital tourism sector through the power of data and evidence-based decision making. The assessment on improving the system of Tourism Statistics in The Gambia revealed critical gaps in our national tourism statistics infrastructure. The recommendations formed the blueprint for what we are actualizing today. Through the Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project, made possible by the generous support of the World Bank’s IDA grant,” he said.
The Minister tasked the beneficiary institutions to ensure proper maintenance, security, and optimal utilization of the equipment, as it will be followed by a rigorous monitoring and evaluation system.
The ceremony was attended by the senior management of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Momodou Ceesay, Project Director, Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project (TDRGP), and the team and representatives of the beneficiary institutions.
