Joof Receives Tourism Minister, Gambia Hotels Association Executive

The minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment today received the Minister of Tourism and Culture and the executive members of The Gambia Hotels Association at his office in Banjul.

Speaking earlier, the Tourism Minister and his team briefed Minister Joof on some of the challenges the hoteliers and tour operators face as well as the need for stakeholders to have a common understanding of The Gambia’s Tourism Industry.

Hon. Abdoulie Jobe, described the meeting as very crucial, saying both ministries have an important role to play in the development and advancement of Gambia’s tourism sector.

“Tourism creates many job opportunities for Gambians, especially for our women and the youths. So, we need to come together as key players in the industry and make it the best for our people,” he said.

He further stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected the tourism industry and therefore all hands need to be on deck to bring the industry back to its two feet.

The Minister further assured the executive members of The Gambia Hotels Association of his Ministry’s continuous support to make the sector more vibrant and reliable.

In receiving the delegation, Hon. Baboucarr O. Joof, the Minister of Trade, thanked the Minister of Tourism and Culture for leading the team to his office, while reassuring them of his Ministry’s commitment to seeing more economical and vibrant industries in the country.

“I am honored for the visit and as the Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, I will do my best to ensure that industries continue to grow including the hotel industries for the economic benefits of the Gambia,” he said.

Similar remarks were made by Abubacarr S. Camara, Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board, and Hayat Blell, President of The Gambia Hotels Association.
