Gambia Tourism Board And Department of Geology Signs Landmark Framework Agreement

The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) and the Department of Geology formalized a Framework Agreement on Monday, 22nd June, 2026, marking a significant milestone in interagency collaboration and the sustainable management of The Gambia’s Tourism Development Area (TDA).

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines.

The Gambian coastline, the heart of the TDA, holds both tourism and significant mineral value. This dual importance has historically created the potential for conflict between tourism development allocations and mining licenses issued within the same areas.

The Framework Agreement establishes clear protocols for communication, consultation, and joint decision-making between the two institutions to address this directly.

According to officials, a joint committee will be established under the agreement to coordinate activities within the TDA, providing investors in both sectors with a streamlined platform for their operational needs — strengthening investor confidence and ensuring the coastline is managed responsibly for the long-term benefit of the nation.
