The countdown has officially begun. In just days, Africa and the wider world will converge on the Smiling Coast of Africa—The Gambia—for the West Africa Food Festival (WAFFEST 2026), scheduled from October 15–21, 2026. Under the inspiring theme “Taste the Smiling Coast,” the festival will celebrate Africa’s rich culinary heritage while positioning The Gambia as a premier destination for culture, hospitality, and gastronomy.
WAFFEST 2026 will bring together chefs, hospitality professionals, food businesses, culinary enthusiasts, and visitors from across the region. It will serve as a dynamic platform for cultural exchange, professional networking, and promoting West African cuisine. From traditional dishes and indigenous ingredients to innovative culinary presentations, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for all who appreciate fine food and vibrant culture.
More than 30 countries are expected to participate in the week-long celebration. Highlights include a country cuisine showcase on opening day, seven masterclass sessions led by renowned culinary experts for students and chefs, and the eagerly anticipated Jollof Rice competition. Notably, The Gambia—last year’s champion after triumphing over Nigeria and Ghana—will defend its crown in this prestigious category.
With more than 350 international guests and 1,000 participants expected, WAFFEST 2026 is set to be a landmark event. The lineup includes Gambia Day, a special celebration of the nation’s culinary identity and hospitality.
The Gambia’s impressive record—winning four of seven categories in Ghana last year—underscores its growing reputation as a culinary powerhouse in the region.
