AIGP Basangeh Is Now The New Tourism Security Boss

To strengthen security within the Tourism Development Area (TDA), the Gambia Police Command has appointed Mr. Adeline Basangeh, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), as the main point of contact for tourism safety.

In this new capacity, the AIGP will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Gambia Tourism Board, and other key stakeholders to address and enhance safety measures across the nation’s key tourism zones.

Following his appointment, the newly designated focal point, AIGP Adeline Basangeh, held an introductory meeting with the Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, on Monday, March 16, 2026.

During the meeting, Minister Jobe underscored the critical importance of tourism security to Destination Gambia’s success.

He acknowledged recent security concerns within the TDA and expressed confidence that the AIGP’s designation comes at a pivotal time to mitigate these issues.

The Minister assured the AIGP of the Ministry’s full support, stating that they are ready to facilitate and assist his efforts to enhance security within the TDA.

In response, AIGP Basangeh thanked the Minister for the warm reception and affirmed his commitment to the role.

He pledged to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry and the Gambia Tourism Board to ensure a safe and secure environment for tourists and stakeholders alike.

The meeting was also attended by Ida Njie,  the Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board.
