In a step to cement the already bilateral relationship between the government of The Gambia and the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Shangsen, the deputy head of mission to The Gambia, recently held a fruitful discussion with the top officials of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in Banjul.
Speaking earlier, Mr. Shangsen said his visit to the Ministry is to foster the cultural ties between Banjul, China, and the Ministry.
He described culture as significant, as it brings people closer together to unite and share values of great importance. He stated that both countries have unique cultural heritages.
The Chinese diplomat highlighted the need to strengthen South-South cooperation, considering the current global dynamics, stating that in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the embassy will be hosting a cultural evening slated for 6th April, 2025, by an artistic group from China to be held at the Sir Dawda Jawara International Conference in Bijilo.
The deputy head of mission further handed another invitation offer to the Permanent Secretary for a training program on monuments and museums to be held in Beijing, China.
Receiving the diplomat on behalf of the Ministry, Cordu Jabang, the Permanent Secretary, commended the Chinese diplomat for visiting her Ministry and described it as a step in the right direction.
She further assured the diplomat of the commitment the government attaches to the importance of culture and cultural heritage.
“As a ministry, we are pleased to have you here today, and you can be assured that we appreciate your visit,” she said.
