A group of five Gambian tailors will leave for the People’s Republic of China this month to undergo 15 days of training on textiles technology courtesy of the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia.
This was revealed by Mr. Hassoum Ceesay, Director General of The National Centre for Arts and Culture, as he led the delegation on Wednesday, 5th May, 2025, to bid farewell to Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, at his office in Banjul.
According to the Director General, this is the first time that a group of tailors from the Gambia is given such an important opportunity to undergo training in China on textile technology.
“These five tailors come from the Kanifing Municipal Regional Tailors Association, the Gambia Tailors Union Association, Latrikunda Women’s Tailors Association, and the Banjul Tailors Association,” he said.
The Honorable Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, emphasized the need for the National Centre for Arts and Culture to continue partnering with the Chinese Embassy in the Gambia so that the creative arts, heritage, and culture practitioners could benefit from such trainings as much as possible as enshrined in the Yiriwa development projects of the government.
Minister Jobe urged the tailors to take the training seriously and do their best as expected of them. He finally thanked the government of the People’s Republic of China for providing the opportunity to these five Gambian tailors.
