National Memorialization Framework Steering Committee Launched

Following its endorsement by the Honorable Minister of Tourism and Culture, the steering committee on the implementation of a National Memorialisation Framework has been launched. The initiative forms part of the Government’s white paper on the implementation of the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission.

Launched by the National Centre for Arts and Culture last week at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the committee will spearhead the development and implementation of a national memorialization strategy and framework, and also facilitate wide consultations, and play a lead role for victims and victim-led organizations.

Members of the steering committee are expected to initiate the commemoration of the April 10th and 11th student massacre, as part of the memorialisation plan and provide quarterly reports to the Minister of Justice, including activities, challenges, existing opportunities, and upcoming activities among other issues.
The following institutions are part of the steering committee: the National Centre for Arts and Culture (chair), Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Lands, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Ministry
of Information, the National Council for Civic Education, and the National Youth Council.
The launching ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Tourism
and Culture, the National Centre for Arts, and key stakeholders.
