Tourism Minister Presents D405,000 to 17 Festival Organizers

The Government of The Gambia, through the National Centre for Arts and Culture, under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, on Tuesday, 12th December 2024 presented cheques amounting to 405,000 Dalasis to seventeenth festival organizers from different parts of the country.

The money is meant to support these festival organizers in their annual end-of-year cultural jamborees, which promote and preserve our great country’s rich cultural heritage.

Speaking at the ceremony, Honourable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said culture plays a key role in bringing people of different cultural backgrounds together.

Minister Jobe reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting cultural groups in The Gambia by fostering unity and tolerance.

According to him, his Ministry will continue to guide the cultural groups in The Gambia so they can showcase their talents wherever they are.

The Minister further called on the beneficiaries to utilize the money properly for its intended purpose, saying that it is from the taxpayers’ coffers.

Mrs. Cordu Jabang, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, who attended the ceremony, expressed similar sentiments.

Mr. Hassoum Ceesay, Director General, of the National Centre for Arts and Culture, chaired the presentation ceremony.
