Tourism Minister Visits Honorary Roaming Ambassador Jobarteh’s Music and Cultural Academy

Besides being the new Roaming Ambassador for Destination Gambia, Dr. Sona Jobarteh is also dedicated to shaping and empowering Gambian youth with lifelong skills at her academy in The Gambia, located in Medina Salam, Kartong.

Currently, about 30 students are enrolled in her academy, studying various fields such as science, mathematics, music, history, and other subjects vital for humanity’s survival.

In a move to support the international marketing and branding of Destination Gambia, the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Abdoulie Jobe, visited the academy on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, alongside the Chinese Consul to The Gambia, Mr. Tong Zhan.

Speaking at the event, Minister Jobe reassured her of the Gambia government’s support and commitment to make the Gambia the best destination for tourists.

“You are doing an excellent job for the country and Africa as a whole. We are proud of you as a Ministry, along with our stakeholders, as the new roaming ambassador for Destination  Gambia. We do not doubt that you will raise The Gambia’s flag to greater heights,” he said.

The Minister further stated that the government is committed to increasing the number of tourist arrivals into the country by coming up with new initiatives and products.

Mr. Tong Zhan of the Chinese Embassy to the Gambia stated that the young people are the future leaders of any country, and they need to be empowered through skills and education.

He expressed the idea of exchange programs between the academy and the government of the People’s Republic of China for better enhancement of the knowledge and skills of the students.

Mr. Abubacarr S. Camara, Director General of The Gambia Tourism Board,  also expressed his institution’s readiness to work hand in hand with Dr. Sona Jobarteh in advancing the course of promoting Destination Gambia.
