UNESCO Regional Director Holds Discussion with Senior MoTAC Staff

The Director of UNESCO Multi-sectoral Regional Office for West Africa and representative in Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, and Senegal, Dr. Dimitri Sanga, has on Tuesday, 14th January 2025  held a fruitful discussion with the senior management of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in Banjul.

The Minister of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination, and Delivery, stepping in for the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Baboucarr Bouy, described UNESCO as a key government partner, especially in arts and culture.

Minister Bouy acknowledged that the National Centre for Arts and Culture, under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has benefited from UNESCO’s support over the years, including in the area of capacity building.

He commended UNESCO for supporting The Gambia through the National Centre for Arts and Culture, especially by providing funds in the form of a grant from the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund.

On his part, Dr. Dimitri Sanga commended the Government of The Gambia for its strong partnership and collaboration with UNESCO over the past years.

He expressed hope that the cordial working relationship between UNESCO and the government of The Gambia will be strengthened for the interest of both sides.

Dr. Sanga reassured the officials of the arts and tourism sector of UNESCO’s ongoing support.
