Mrs. Amie Njie, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has highlighted key achievements of her Ministry, including a 3% increase in visitor air arrivals for 2025, a new marketing and branding strategy, the Tourism Development Area Management Information System (TDA-MIS) for real-time quality data, matching grants for Micro-Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the Yokutè Accelerator Program, and the expansion of the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute’s Test Kitchen to boost student capacity.
She also noted initial steps toward a National Language Policy and compilation of a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA).
She highlighted these achievements during the recently concluded Permanent Secretaries retreat held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre from 27th to 30th April 2026, for the first-quarter retreat of fiscal year 2026, under the theme “Delivering the National Development Plan: Unified Actions for Tangible Results.
Looking ahead to the remainder of fiscal year 2026, PS Njie outlined plans to develop a Creative Industry Policy, provide technical support to 585 MSMEs, and make minor upgrades to nine tourism and heritage sites.
“The European Union Youth Empowerment Project will back these interventions for Tourism and Creative Industries,” she concluded.
